Exactly and/or worry about one of them crapping out while in the middle of something important...

Indeed! I did a search at newegg for the "my passport" and it's got reasonable reviews--68% 5 eggs (out of 5)...

I also did a search at newegg for desktop external drives (which will generally come with a power adapter vs. "portables" which don't) looking at all sellers (not just newegg), 4TB drives, priced low-to-high just in case you might find that useful...
