Yes but the problem is that the error message one receives does not make this clear (at all!) that this is the problem. I had to do quite a bit of searching to finally find the cause and of course the solution which is to log in to the gmail account and change the setting to "Turn On" at: https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps
