Default Font types

In a previous post I have complained about having too many fonts -- so now I'm after more.

The company that sells that 7,500 font collection I bought offers a free font every month. Most have been fonts I could never EVER see myself using, so I haven't bothered to download them. This month's font is different. It's clean, it's geometric, and I could easily see myself using it for something.

It's offered for download as a TrueType font and as an OpenType font. If I work mostly in Word (or LibreOffice or SoftMaker Office), does it make any difference which one I download? Should I download both?

Thanks.
