Default Vale Mike

It is with great sadness that we report the death on March 20 of long-time forum member and staffer, Mike Cotterell.

Mike had a strong theoretical and practical knowledge of his craft and was generous with his advice and assistance. He also entertained us with stories of his life outside of publishing. We all enjoyed tales of the move to Wales, his 60th birthday party, learning Welsh, and of course the dogs and other animals and his move into framing. All of this was done and reported while meeting the publishing deadlines for the books he typeset for a living.

We all learnt from Mike’s frequent experiments with new hardware and software, his teaching background enabling him to explain and report in clear and entertaining ways.

He was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer late last year and died at the Hospice in the Weald in Kent, where he had excellent care and attention. His wife Audrey was with him. Mike often mentioned the affection and advice he received from Audrey, and we extend to her our sympathy and support.
