Default Startling but pleasant discovery

I sort of knew that the ABBYY Fine Reader OCR software bundled with my Fujitsu document scanner would recognize multiple languages. I had no idea how many (I mean really: Pascal??) or that it would actually handle Japanese.

If I get email in Japanese, I can generally puzzle out what it means (with a LOT of help from Google) but if it's a printed piece, Google can't do much for me, nor can I.

So wasn't I chuffed to find out that ABBYY can be set to look for Japanese and can even send the result to various types of files, including Word and text-searchable PDF. Whence I can copy/paste into Google and commence the puzzle solving.
