Default Bonehead InDesign Question

I work with a print publishing company in China, and got a weird question regarding converting to InDesign from Quark.

We do all of our design work on Mac and some of my partners would like to switch to InDesign because they were told that by moving to InDesign they could stop using Macs and go with cheaper PC based design stations. (Btw, am already doing all of our design in our Shanghai office on InDesign, but our HK office is thinking of switching as well).

I always thought that the use of Macs was primarily driven by the need to ensure compatibility with film output centres and printers. Any truth to the assertion that InDesign makes Macs unnecessary for those of us doing magazine design?

All comments welcome..
