Default Better copy?

Is there some little software utility that (simply and easily) copies stuff from one place to the other that is better--as in faster--than Windows' copy command?

I have a vague memory of reading about such many moon ago and never paid much attention (other than to note its existence) because Windows' copy worked ok for me but yesterday, I was copying 120GB file from my lovely new Fantom drive to a thumbdrive and it took bloody FOREVER!!

I know the obvious limitation of transfer rates and hardware but, it occurred to me that there might be something else out there that might be worth trying.

Suggestions?

Thanks...
