Finally!

My late wife was a Latina, and she didn't speak English well (and not at all when we married and she first arrived in the U.S.). Being from a South American country, she was Roman Catholic. The catholic church in our town didn't hold a Spanish-language mass, and the parishioners weren't especially welcoming to her. So we looked for alternatives.

One day I was heading to a meeting in a nearby small-ish city and I passed by a big pile of stones in a Gothic style of architecture with a huge sign/banner out front: La Misa en Espanol. Well, cool! I mentioned it to my wife, and she was excited. For some reason, though, when Sunday rolled around I had a scheduling conflict, so my wife ventured off with a friend she had met who was also from her native country. When the ladies returned, my wife said she had really liked the church, and she liked the Latino assistant pastor who conducted the mass.

When she showed me his card, though, I was a bit surprised to see that he is Episcopalian, not Roman Catholic. When I pointed this out to my wife, she said she didn't care. The mass felt like home to her, it was in Spanish, and she liked the padre. So, from then on we attended mass at that church -- which was fine with me, since I was christened Episcopal anyway. Over the years, we became more friendly with the assistant pastor, and I have remained friendly with him since my wife died.

About ten years ago, he started to write a book. He doesn't speak good English, so I volunteered to translate from Spanish to English and to edit the manuscript. He did about three chapters, and then stopped. Until last year, when he finished the book. I translated it into English and did a quick edit for punctuation, spelling and grammar, then I formatted both the English and Spanish versions for print and e-book, designed a cover, and we were ready to publish.

Except that the good padre couldn't get into his Amazon account, so he couldn't get into KDP. And there things sat for a couple or three months. This past week, he had a problem with his cell phone so he has reinvented himself. He now has a new phone, with a new telephone number, and a new e-mail account. I had lunch with him today after church, then we went back to his house, set up a KDP account for him, and uploaded both the English and Spanish books for print and Kindle.

El padre esta muy feliz.
