Default Color adjustment utility?

I'm looking for a better way to adjust the way the graphic adapter displays colors. I have Datacolor Spyder and it's not getting me to where I want to be. I've also tried the included Intel display graphics control panel, and it is very limited in what it can do. And those things it can do are not always good. For example, the contrast adjustment is so ham-fisted that raising the slider a single increment wipes out color in the highlights.

By the way, I already upgraded the Intel display adapter to the latest driver.
