What would be a good, inexensive, font converter? I need to convert a Windows TTF to a Mac font of some kind.

I don't think there is such a beast--at least not one that's something like a utility--I think you need something like Fontographer or the other font generating software...

Hi, I found this today I think it's just what I needed (on the right where it says "TT converter").

On a related note, is anybody here are using Mac OS9 exclusively? Just curious because I didn't think many people would be using a 6-year old OS.

Currently I'm using Windows 2000 exclusively - that's more than 6 years old.

Your best bet is TransType Pro from FontLab. It can convert just about any font across platforms to and from most historic formats, including multiple master Type 1 (not including OpenType, in other words).

The old Mac utility TT Converter may still work (I haven’t tried it in ages, and no longer have Classic available so cannot see how it works).

I’m sure you know this, but just in case: Mac OS X can use Windows TTFs directly.

Not sure how many Mac users still cling to pre-OS X systems, but some do. Probably not too many in either DTP or web development, however.

Yeah that's the reason I have to convert a Windows TTF to Mac - one of our clients is running OS9.

Then have your client download TT Converter — may just do the trick. Assuming they have the font file, of course.

TransType Pro 3 can deal with OTF fonts, and does so very satisfactorily; I think it's one of the advantages of TT 2 (which couldn't). However, it's not exactly inexpensive.
