Once I realized what the underlying issue was, it was a fairly straightforward fix for printing on special paper (something other the your standard letter/legal laser paper) which is to slow down the printing because it's the "how fast it can output the printed page" that is prioritized--laser label paper is different from standard laser paper. As I'm sure you are aware, Avery is the big name (in the US) for laser/inkjet labels but Avery labels are pricey. Years ago, I found Label Outfitters and they offer both
laser labels--I like their
matte laser lables--and they also offer
inkjet labels and their pricing is much better than Avery's--I'm pretty sure I'd have the same issue if I were using Avery labels.
At any rate, it's only when printing to the label paper that one needs to fiddle with the settings--I created a printer profile which makes it quick to setup when needed. An alternative to using the "Improve Toner Fixing" option is to change the media setting choosing "thick" paper which will move more slowly through the printer...
