I've been checking out 2019 cars by looking online. I'm not kidding when I say the front of the Toyota Avalon is downright scary. I realize the Avalon is supposed to appeal to older drivers, but trying to appeal to immortal vampires seems a bit unrealistic.

It looks like they forgot to finish it.

The rest of it looks just fine though.

<muffles voice, breathes heavily>Luke, I am your car.

Well, ok, the Stormtroopers don't talk like that, but they sure LOOK like this car.

I had the same first reaction. One reviewer wrote "Behind A Gruesome Grille Lurks An Excellent Large Sedan (https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnmccormick/2018/04/30/first-drive-2019-toyota-avalon-behind-a-gruesome-grille-lurks-an-excellent-large-sedan/#728887032870)"

I can't believe how expensive it is...

It ain't cheap, but it is a full-size sedan and with a base model that is lower than a Buick Regal. OTOH, if you want to get a real luxury, there's always the classy Lexus LS (https://www.lexus.com/models/LS).

I don't care for the look of the new Lexus. I think I prefer the growly-toothy Avalon...'-}}

A friend of mine recently bought a new Toyota RAV 4 and I had a chance to see it the other day when we met for lunch. It's really quite nice as she bought the model with all the bells and whistles--my 2006 RAV4 is a bit shabby in comparision (and smaller) but there are a lot of things I disliked about the current cars like the push-button start, all the tracking crap they now include (like OnStar) and other odds and ends so I'm happy with my 2006.

That said, her RAV4 is pretty and she's pleased with it so that's what matters...'-}}

The RAV 4 looks very good. IMO, the Lexus looks like it was done by the same team that did the Avalon.

Anyway, I happen to be car shopping, and the logic for why someone like me would need a new car is a recent revelation. I just have to get out and look at them.

I guess we got lucky; bought our RAV a model year or two before they added all that nonsense. Well pleased with it.

For what it's worth, someone recommended this site for uncovering problems in some models or cars. https://www.carcomplaints.com/
