Tokyo-based PingMag, a design magazine, has a good long interview with Erik Spiekermann (http://www.pingmag.jp/2005/10/31/erik-spiekermann-typography-and-design-today/), designer of FF Meta, Officina, and many other popular typefaces. He also founded MetaDesign and FontShop.

Along with specimens of some of Spiekermann’s typefaces and other general illustrations, the article includes sketches for font designs, a useful discussion of the design process (applicable to any sort of design) versus production, his views on changes in type design and use over the past couple of decades, and much more.

I had never seen this magazine before today, but I am really impressed. I see it has also interviewed Stefan Sagmeister, several Japanese designers, and has other interesting articles, including one on “Experimental Hebrew typography” by Oded Ezer and another on “Dutch design from Japan” by Samira Boon.

Definitely worth a look-see.

Tokyo-based PingMag, a design magazine...Oh, that's very nice (dangerous, too - a great time sink!). I enjoyed the article about Japanese construction worker's clothes - fashion!

That's odd. I read the interview once, then went back to reread his comments on Officina Sans. But there are no comments about Officina Sans. And now I have no idea where I just read this, but it was an interview with Spiekermann.
